Give Instructors the Access They Need – Without Making Them SiteAdmins
Anders
At the moment, there is an inconsistency in what an Instructor is allowed to do. An Instructor can be given access to functions that may have a direct commercial impact on the business, including course and pricing-related settings. However, the same Instructor cannot manually register a student for a specific scheduled 1-1 Booking – even when the Instructor is the host of that booking and the student is enrolled in a course assigned to them.
From a business and workflow perspective, this feels somewhat counterintuitive. Registering or managing a participant in an Instructor's own 1-1 Booking would normally be a less sensitive permission than making changes that can affect what customers are charged.
Rather than simply extending the Instructor role across the board, I think a more flexible solution would be to give the Site Admin granular control over Instructor permissions.
For example, the Site Admin could enable or disable permissions for individual Instructors to:
manage their own 1-1 Bookings and manually register participants;
access relevant Live information for students assigned to them;
create or edit courses;
create or edit Pricing Plans;
manage course Automations;
access other administrative functions relevant to their work.
This would allow each site owner to decide the appropriate level of responsibility for each Instructor, without having to promote someone to full Admin simply because they need access to one additional function.
In my own case, I work with an Instructor whom I trust completely and who should be able to manage her own 1-1 participants. Making her an Admin would solve the immediate problem, but it would also give her access to many functions she does not actually need.
I therefore think that Site Admin-controlled Instructor permissions would provide a more logical and flexible solution, both for 1-1 Bookings and more generally.
Would you consider adding more granular Instructor permissions to Zenler?
